1. Birth and Schooling

Cllr Lorato Veronica Maogwe was born and bred in Huhudi township near Vryburg in the North West Province on the 21st October 1982. Cllr Maogwe started her schooling in Moeti Lower Primary School and continued to John Frylinck Middle School. Cllr Maogwe ended schooling at Pule Leeuw Comprehensive Secondary School. Cllr Maogwe further attended and successfully completed computer course at Love Life Computer Centre and other several developmental courses.

2. Leadership Qualities

Cllr Maogwe was an active member and the leader of Congress of South African Students (COSAS) at Pule Leeuw Comprehensive Secondary School (2000-2001) and Cllr Maogwe became the Deputy Secretary of COSAS in Bophirima District Municipality (2001-2002). Cllr Maogwe was elected as the Branch Secretary of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Ward 4 of Naledi Sub – Region (2003). Subsequent to that, Cllr Maogwewas elected as the member of Regional Executive Committee (REC) and Regional Working Committee (RWC) in 2004.

After the disbandment of the National and Provincial Structure/s of the ANCYL in South Africa, Cllr Maogwe was appointed the Convenor of the Regional Task Team (RTT) of Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Region in 2013. During the re-establishment of the ANCYL, Cllr Maogwe was then elected as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) and the Provincial Working Committee (PWC) in the North West Province in 2014. In 2015, Cllr Maogwe was elected to National Executive Committee NEC) of the ANCYL, the position she currently holds.

3. Work Experience

Cllr Maogwe worked for (i) Naledi Local Municipality (2008-2014), (ii) Department of Social Development (2014-2015), and Parliamentary Constituency Office (2015-2016). On the 3rd August 2016, Cllr Maogwe was elected the Councillor of the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality. On the 19th August 2016, Cllr Maogwe was elected and tasked with the responsibilities of the District Speaker of the same District Municipality, the position she occupies to date
